Student Counsellor and Wellbeing Coordinator

Role

We are seeking a student centric and compassionate person to provide end to end counselling services (identification to resolution) to individual students, including face to face, telephone and crisis counselling and to enrich their personal and social wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Triage cases, managing students at risk, liaison with external referral agencies including GP, psychological and psychiatric services. Manage complex mental health cases
  • Provide initial counselling and support for students for issues such as adjustment difficulty, low class attendance/grades, stress, personal and welfare matters
  • Provide referrals to appropriate outside agencies for significant health case, eg: Sonder
  • Work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders including student success advisors, academic staff, and school wellbeing team
  • Raise awareness among school staff of issues/challenges facing the student populations
  • Organise workshops for students and staff on welfare issues based on student needs
  • Maintain records in accurately and timely in student case notes in Student Management System (Edupoint/SMS)
  • Review and update wellbeing policies and procedures in consultation with Student Experience/Services teams
  • Ensure as far as is practicable that the workplace complies with company policies and procedures including WHS legislation requirements and is safe and without risks to health
  • Being a productive member of the Kaplan team by displaying the Company values through your day-to-day role

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or equivalent (essential)
  • Demonstrated work experience in a similar role with specific work experience in the provision of counselling for young people, preferably of Pre-University age of diverse backgrounds (essential)
  • Experience in the assessment and management of complex cognitive and emotional, mental health, and developmental issues among a diverse population (essential)
  • Knowledge and understanding of counselling practice, case-planning and case review, within a school or tertiary institution setting, including an understanding of triage functionality
  • Working with Children Check, or willing to obtain
  • Positive and supportive communication style with experience across a variety of key stakeholders
  • Ability to plan, control, coordinate and manage activities with minimal supervision
  • Being available outside standard business hours in exceptional circumstances such as critical incidents involving students
  • Previous experience of volume caseloads within an educational capacity (desirable)
  • Membership or eligibility for membership of the AASW, APS, PACFA or equivalent (desirable)
