Role

We are looking for a Student Counsellor and Wellbeing Coordinator who will deliver compassionate, timely counselling services, manage mental health and welfare cases, and coordinate referrals to external providers. When counselling demand is lower, particularly during student breaks or holiday periods, you'll step into the role of Senior College Services Advisor, assisting with student enrolments, academic advice, event coordination, and administrative tasks. This hybrid role is perfect for someone passionate about student wellbeing who thrives in a varied, student-centric environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments, counselling, crisis interventions, and manage referrals to external health services.
  • Provide compassionate support for students experiencing personal difficulties, mental health challenges, and academic or social issues.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (teachers, advisors) and external stakeholders (healthcare providers) to ensure cohesive support.
  • Organise and facilitate wellbeing workshops and maintain comprehensive records of student cases.
  • Promote awareness and responsiveness to student wellbeing within the college community.

Additionally, as a Senior College Services Advisor, you will support broader student experience functions during low demand periods for counselling services:

  • Provide frontline student services including course guidance, enrolment assistance, and general support enquiries.
  • Monitor and support academic progress, attendance, and participation in college life.
  • Assist with student events, orientations, and engagement activities.
  • Manage administrative tasks and database updates, including providing reception cover as part of the team roster.

Requirements

Qualification:

  • Degree or certification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or closely related field.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in counselling, mental health assessment, crisis response, and wellbeing coordination.
  • Ideally, significant experience supporting international students or diverse youth/student populations.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong skills in counselling, triage, mental health support, and case management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, with an empathetic and student-focused approach.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to effectively engage international student populations.
  • Proven administrative abilities, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise effectively, and manage workload flexibly across counselling and advisory duties.
  • Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), and capable of learning new systems quickly.
  • Availability to respond to critical student incidents outside standard business hours (when necessary).

Compliance:

  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.
